The Emanuel Synagogue (West Hartford, Connecticut), a mid-sized, vibrant and egalitarian Conservative Jewish community, seeks a full-time Executive Director.
The Executive Director will administer the synagogue’s affairs at the direction of the President of the Board of Trustees. Responsibilities include:
Assisting with member relations and outreach efforts to prospective members;
Coordinating synagogue communications;
Overseeing the synagogue’s financial and business activities and staff;
Assisting with budget preparation and implementation;
Executing and optimizing the synagogue’s operational systems;
Managing human resources;
Coordinating events held at the synagogue;
Coordinating and overseeing volunteers;
Overseeing the property manager and head custodian in conjunction with the synagogue’s House Committee;
Assisting with fund-raising initiatives; and
Supporting the activities of the Cemetery conducted through the synagogue office.
Candidate must be able to multi-task successfully in a demanding, fast-paced, congregant-oriented environment. Candidate must have human resource management experience and/or training. Knowledge of Jewish communal practice and ritual is desired.
Skills Required: Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive matters in a tactful and discreet manner; Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Knowledge of general ledger accounting; Comfortable with utilizing database software.
