Under the direction of the Vice President of Communications (VP), the Manager will support the VP in planning and implementing the strategy for all internal and external communications including marketing, media relations, public relations, and member communications, and assist in developing the overall member engagement and branding strategies to support the association.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Manager has a broad range of duties and responsibilities including, but not limited to, the following:
Draft marketing materials for membership outreach and events and other promotional communications.
Develop and manage evergreen communications calendar where all recurring association communication requirements are scheduled.
Develop and implement comprehensive member communication strategy, including elements such as member newsletter, events marketing and website content development.
Support VP in managing media inquiries, including gathering media questions and preparing suggested responses.
Work closely with Division Staff Executives to draft messages and write and curate content for website, news releases, letters to editors, member communications, event marketing, and blog posts.
Assist Coordinator of Social Media with implementing and growing existing comprehensive social media plan to promote Association business (g., Twitter, LinkedIn and development of future platforms).
Review and manage media clips using clipping system; alert staff to important news affecting the industry; and respond as necessary.
Provide editing, proofreading, and writing support for CSPA’s affiliates – Alliance for Consumer Education, Research and Regulatory Management Council and Product Care – to promote their agendas.
Assist with development and production of Annual Report, including compilation of information and writing content.
Support for CSPA Mid-Year and Annual Meetings
Participate in creative team meetings to develop and implement meeting themes.
Assist in developing the run of show and writing scripts and speeches.
Attend CSPA’s Mid-Year and Annual Meetings and cover various sessions, as assigned, for inclusion in post-meeting member communication.
Education and Qualification Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, political science, or related field is required.
Work experience should include a minimum of four years in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field.
Polished professional able to interact with staff members, association members, and Board of Directors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Strong interpersonal skills (communication, teamwork) and personal effectiveness skills (decision making, time management).
Works well independently or in a team when necessary.
Self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced office environment.
Must be flexible and able to manage multiple responsibilities.
Skilled in media relations, including screening incoming media calls, pitching stories, and proactive outreach for relationship building.
Ability to use knowledge and information to develop messages.
Knowledge of AP style.
Ability to exercise good judgment in determining when to inform staff of important new developments.
Proficient with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Knowledge of social media and digital communications.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Overnight travel with extended stay to the Mid-Year and Annual Meetings is required. Travel to other CSPA sponsored events throughout the year as business needs dictate.
