The Department of Sociomedical Sciences within Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health seeks an Associate Director, Social Marketing for the Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion. Situated in one of the greatest universities and medical centers in the world, the Mailman School of Public Health is recognized as a global leader in addressing critical and complex public health issues affecting New Yorkers, the nation, and the world.
The Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion aims to bring forth interdisciplinary, cutting-edge ideas to solve today's greatest public health challenges, drawing from the distinctive approach of the Department of Sociomedical Sciences, which views public health as embedded within social, cultural, historical, and political contexts. Through research, education, and service, the Lerner Center will lead research in health promotion and health communication, trains the next generation of public health leaders to innovate and collaborate across disciplines, and develops innovative, evidence-based communication approaches to bolster the health of populations through active service and community partnerships. The Lerner Center is affiliated with the Monday Campaigns, a non-profit initiative that utilizes weekly periodicity to promote healthy behaviors through health campaigns (e.g. Meatless Monday, Move It Monday, Healthy Monday, DeStress Monday, etc.).
The Associate Director, Social Marketing will play a vital role in leading, developing and managing the Lerner Center's social marketing strategy and digital communications. He/she will work closely with the Lerner Center staff, Mailman SPH Lerner Center Faculty, and the marketing and creative design experts at The Monday Campaigns.
The ideal candidate has extensive web and digital experience, graphic design skills, and a passion for health and social justice.
General Minimum Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience plus four years of related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: -Experience with platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Canva and Instagram -Graphic design skills - including proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Photoshop/InDesign) -Familiar with email best practices regarding contact strategies, data capture, campaign analysis and deliverability -Knowledge of marketing digital tools and techniques -Strong ability to multi-task, operate efficiently, learn and adapt quickly -Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously -Must take initiative and able to work independently with minimal supervision -High level of attention to detail -Excellent communication and writing skills -Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies, and exercise tact and discretion when interacting with faculty, administrators and students -Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint -Interest and understanding of the health communication field (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree and 3+ years experience in social media, social marketing and/or health communication is required. Prior experience in teaching and training related to social media or graphic design is highly desirable.
