Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for establishing and implementing annual and long-range marketing strategies in line with the school’s mission, values and brand, delivering on them through internal and external communications. The Director is a member of the school’s Advancement Office and works in close partnership with Admissions to develop strategy and oversee execution of marketing efforts to attract highly talented students and capitalize on market opportunities. This position also works closely with Administration, Faculty, Parents and the Board of Directors.
The Director of Marketing and Communications will develop and manage a budget, oversee a staff of two, ensure school adherence to our identity and brand, oversee admission and advancement marketing efforts, media relations, digital media, graphics, and related internal and external communications. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, resourceful and have impeccable communication and leadership skills. The position requires a seasoned professional able to engage successfully with a large variety of internal and external stakeholders in our community.
Update existing marketing plans as needed with strategic long-term and tactile short-term objectives, in conjunction with the Kalix Brand Study
Manage the marketing and communications budget for all staffing, resources and capital purchases
Evaluate, implement and manage new media technologies to reach prospective and current students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, donors and friends
Develop and oversee media relations plans and campaigns, communications/releases and proactively seek out editorial and other media coverage
Manage the creation of all marketing collateral and support pieces on behalf of the school
Manage and motivate team of two professionals in the area of social and digital media and web
Maintain knowledge of marketing trends, developments and best practices
Participate as a member of the school’s Enrollment Management Committee
Produce annually the school’s magazine, The Counselor
Manage the school’s branding initiatives to ensure consistency of the school brand identity both internally and externally
Oversee market research and competitive analysis to ensure school is effectively positioned amongst Catholic and independent schools in the area
Establish and maintain professional relationships amongst all levels of the school’s community while creating a collaborative environment
Manage the school’s relationships with outside vendors for web, electronic communications, graphics designers, printing firms, photographers, etc.
Oversee the school’s website to ensure timely enhancements and upkeep
Oversee the school’s integrated social media strategy and create social media campaigns, blogs, web-casts, etc., for targeted audiences that support marketing plans and strategies
Coach colleagues in marketing, writing and publication skills
Assist with event execution in support of alumni and development efforts
Complete other duties as assigned in support of the work of the Advancement Department and further the mission of the school
Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or a related field is required
6-10 years of experience in marketing and communications in a professional environment, with three or more years in a supervisory role is required
Prior experience in secondary or higher education is preferred
Extensive experience in all aspects of Marketing and Communications including brand, print and digital marketing for various audiences
Exceptional verbal, written and communication skills
Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail and time management
Creative leadership with ability to adapt quickly to a changing environment
Preference to candidates who have an understanding of admissions marketing, college admissions and fundraising
Capable of working with varying personalities
Computer proficiency is required, knowledge of Finalsite is a plus
Required work hours:
A minimum of forty hours per week, plus other hours as may be necessary to complete job duties including occasional evening and weekend work.
