The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for identifying new revenue streams and targeting new affinity and business partnerships, as well as individual and broad-based fundraising activities and priorities that involve volunteers, staff, governance/leadership, members, chapters, and alumni, for the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) and the AMSA Foundation (501 c(6) and 501 c(3) nonprofit organizations, respectively). The BDM works closely with the Director of Business Development and the CEO to create, plan, implement, monitor, and sustain a variety of sales efforts, fundraising campaigns, non-dues revenue generating programs/services/activities and strategic business partnerships. This includes articulating and updating fundraising strategies, goals and objectives, and maintaining a fundraising calendar and prospects list. The BDM must cultivate relationships with medical school faculty and administration and have an understanding of how AMSA can satisfy their needs and wants. The BDM will create and deliver presentations about AMSA, sales opportunities and institutional partnerships.
The ability to distill the needs, issues, priorities and vision of student leaders to search and find compatible funding sources and successfully secure funding sources for the same is a critical aspect of the job. Among many other tactics, this involves identifying and effectively bidding for relevant government and private grants and contracts. The BDM identifies, cultivates, solicits, negotiates, and provides stewardship of gifts from individuals, corporations, businesses, and foundations. The BDM is responsible for managing and appropriately increasing all sales activities and program sponsorship opportunities, which includes data collection and analysis to identify and recommend actions regarding pricing, distribution, product enhancements and new product, program or service development. The BDM identifies and explores relevant affinity partnerships, and develops and facilitates strategic partnerships with companies and organizations to sustain and bring in additional meaningful business to the organization. The BDM reports to the Director of Business Development.
*Three or more years in sales
