The Director of Marketing & Communications at BU Wheelock is charged with creating and executing communication plans and marketing strategies that successfully support the major goals of the college.
This position works closely with the Deans Office and the Assistant Dean for Strategic & Executive Affairs to identify priority areas of focus; collaborates with stakeholders, including college leadership, and faculty and staff, in the areas of Student Affairs, Faculty Affairs, Academic Affairs, Strategic Initiatives and Research, to create concrete goals for a given initiative; and directs the Wheelock MarCom office in their execution of comprehensive, multi-platform marketing and communication plans and strategies.
Recurrent areas of focus include undergraduate and graduate recruitment efforts, including online programs; strategic communication to faculty, staff, community partners and other key stakeholder groups; reputation-building among peer institutions nationally and at BU; and public relations on behalf of the Deans Office and Wheelock faculty, with an emphasis on breaking news, alumni and community involvement, and research.
The Director of Wheelock MarCom will support the Offices of Strategic Initiatives and Student Affairs and Enrollment in overseeing the successful launch of new degree offerings; in increasing the size and quality of incoming student cohorts and in enhancing the narrative and value proposition of Wheelock undergraduate and graduate programs. It will also support initiatives that enhance Wheelocks national reputation and increase rankings by communicating effectively to the higher ed community about Wheelock; and strengthen Wheelocks connection to our large alumni base via a revised alumni communications strategy.
B.A./B.S., Masters degree preferred. Three to Five years of related experience.
Exceptionally strong writing and verbal skills.
Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated expertise working with faculty, staff and students with diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Ability to deal successfully with multiple tasks, shifting priorities, and drive projects to successful completion.
Interest and familiarity with national education landscape, including public schools and higher ed.
Capable of effective collaboration with a range of stakeholders, and ability to navigate complexities and leverage resources within a large university/institution.
Strong leadership skills and experience leading collaborative groups toward successful execution of marketing and communications strategies in a higher education space.
Experience working within an academic environment.
Experience with live streaming meetings and events.
Diverse technical skillset related to print and digital communication and production, including Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and CRM-management software.
Willingness to acquire additional technical skill-sets in order to meet the needs of new and expanding strategic initiatives.
