The University of Cincinnati Cancer Center (UCCC) is seeking a Director of Marketing and Communications. UCCC's vision is to build a nationally recognized center that excels in cancer care, research, training and community impact. The Director of Marketing and Communications will, under general supervision of the Executive Director for Center Administration and in collaboration with the Center’s Co-Directors, manage and coordinate various external and internal marketing and communications strategies, activities, initiatives, special events and projects for the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center (UCCC) and its leadership. Coordinate activities collaboratively with other institutional marketing and communication teams and colleagues engaged with cancer-related patient care, research, community outreach and engagement, and education and training activities across all partner institutions (University of Cincinnati, UC Health, Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and UC Foundation) and related colleges, departments, divisions, sections, etc. involved in UC Academic Health Center tripartite mission areas.
Primary Duties
Under general supervision from the Executive Director, manage and coordinate various external and internal marketing and communications strategies, activities, initiatives, special events and projects for the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center (UCCC).
Coordinate activities collaboratively with institutional marketing and communication teams and colleagues engaged with cancer-related patient care, research, community outreach and engagement, and education and training activities across all partner institutions and with associated colleges, schools, departments, divisions and central units.
Provide oversight of and central point of contact within the UCCC Administrative Core Office for marketing and communications across all partner institutions to ensure consistency and appropriate balance of messaging and content across all platforms and media channels for tripartite mission areas – research, teaching and clinical/patient care.
Assist Co-Directors and other institutional marketing and communications teams in prioritizing and coordinating cancer-related marketing and communication activities/initiatives in tripartite mission areas for multi-disciplinary disease teams/COEs and relevant academic department leaders and administrators, as well as, individual faculty
Essential Functions
Manage and coordinate external and internal communications and marketing initiatives and activities and assist with special events and projects in collaboration with other UCCC team members and institutional colleagues.
Direct, develop, coordinate, implement and monitor marketing strategies and plans in conjunction with other appropriate marketing and communications teams/colleagues at partner institutions.
Coordinate marketing and communications activities in partnership with UCCC’s NCI-required community outreach and engagement initiatives and support development of COE internally and externally.
Plan and implement marketing events in conjunction with the UCCC events team.
Assist in developing communications and marketing strategies and implementation plans in support of UCCC goals via print, electronic, web, social and other media.
Coordinate plans and initiatives to build UCCC’s brand and image with other NCI designated cancer centers, their leaders and members with focus upon elevating the Center’s innovative research profile as measured through high impact publications and other reputational factors.
Coordinate public relations as appropriate in conjunction with UCCC’s developing community outreach and engagement (COE) infrastructure; serve as liaison with UC, UC Health, and CCHMC public relations, local and national press and media.
Guide and generate content and design of print publications and websites; draft and execute copy for publications. Supervise design and layout processes; establish and maintain design standards for all material produced; stay abreast of technological advances in the field; recommend alternate approaches to design and production for cost-effective printed materials; maintain records and files.
Monitor and evaluate communications effectiveness; conduct market analyses as appropriate; benchmark against other NCI designated cancer centers and inventory best practices.
Manage and coordinate UCCC’s website and social media strategies and content.
Oversee day-to-day operations of communications and marketing; manage production timelines, costs, staff assignments, and/or vendor selections.
Manage and provide oversight of budgets and expenditures for areas assigned.
Manage relationships with vendors and supplemental staff such as freelance writers; ensure that work meets quality and branding standards.
Coordinate with campus wide marketing and promotions requirements and plans.
Serve on various institutional committees and represent the UCCC and university at various national associations relevant to NCI designated cancer centers.
Serve as member on University-wide, community and industry committees and/or meetings as assigned.
May provide direct supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e. hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.) including assigning projects and work assignments.
Perform related duties based on center-specific needs.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with seven (7) years’ experience; -OR- Associate’s degree with nine (9) years’ experience; -OR- eleven (11) years’ experience. Experience may require at least three (3) years of supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree with five (5) years’ experience
