Cornell's School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) has a long and distinguished history of successfully educating leaders for a wide variety of industries and academia. Graduates have major impacts on the chemical, consumer, pharmaceutical, petroleum, electronic, biotechnology, and biomedical industries.
Under the direction of the Director and Administrative Director, the incumbent will manage and oversee the department's web site, social media, print and video media, marketing and general communications. Manage and execute department publications - Olin Hall News, monthly and quarterly newsletters for Olin Hall and alumni. Working in coordination with the Director, Director of Administration and the Director of Marketing and Communications at the College's centralized Marketing and Communications team, this position will assist in the identification of new marketing and communications opportunities within the unit, the collection of data, information, pictures, media, and other content related to potential and ongoing news stories, and the monitoring of current content on websites, social media platforms, and other communications-related outlets. This position will also collaborate with College-level branding experts, to ensure that the unit is continually leveraging opportunities and serve as a departmental liaison to promote the College's brand awareness and adherence to College-level, University-level marketing and communications guidelines, and best practices. In addition, this role will be responsible for coordinating department events.
Associate's degree and 2-4 years of experience with conference and event planning, marketing or equivalent combination.
High level of professionalism and customer service experience.
Excellent organizational skills, self-motivation, and initiative.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Is approachable and accessible to customers, specifically lead customer on events. Makes certain lead customer is aware of event details of the event in a timely manner. Demonstrates responsiveness to inquiries from lead customers, director, director of administration, college organizations, and vendors.
Excellent attention to details.
Experience that demonstrates sound judgment, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
Must be able to work independently while contributing to the efforts of the larger team.
Ability to develop excellent working relationships including communicating with faculty, students, and staff in a professional and collaborative manner.
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Experience with software such as InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite, and Photoshop.
Ability to make appropriate decisions under minimal supervision and multi-task on several upcoming events as once.
The ability to respond quickly and effectively to multiple priorities and situations with a high level of initiative is critical.
High level of independence, creative problem solving, and ability to handle confidentiality.
Must be able to represent the department, college and university in a professional manner to internal and external vendors.
Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of experience with conference and event planning, marketing or equivalent combination.
Understanding of academic settings desirable.
Knowledge of Cornell's policies strongly preferred.
Knowledge of Cornell's systems--financial, procurement strongly preferred,
CMP or other event planning or project management certification desirable.
Knowledge of event planning software, such as CVENT or Workfront.
Experience with HTML, CSS, and video capture, editing, and posting, with an enthusiasm for emerging social media. Knowledge, interest or work experience within a field of science or technology. Experience maintaining and managing CMS-based (Common Spot, Drupal and Word Press) websites a plus.
