Job Summary: The Marketing Coordinator I is responsible for marketing, promotion, and publicity functions for a department, college, or division. Responsibilities could include creating and implementing marketing strategies using advertising, media, direct mail, and other printed material, broadcast outlets and mailing lists; overseeing the production of the materials specified in marketing plans and calendars; consulting with product and/or program development; developing budgets, and maintaining good working relations with the news media.
Additional Department Summary: The Marketing Coordinator is an essential member of the University of Alabama Press (UAP) marketing and sales team, reporting to the Sales and Marketing Director. Oversees a coherent strategy for promoting and publicizing the Press as a whole. Collaborates with Acquisitions Editors in the preparation for their attendance at scholarly meetings and trade exhibits. Develops and maintains reviewer databases. Distributes new titles to book reviewers along with marketing slips created for that purpose. Collects and deploys resulting book reviews in book metadata. Interacts with the book-buying public through social media, UAP website, and email book announcements. Creates discount flyers for distribution by authors through their own academic and social networks. Submits UAP books for awards within the time limits identified by the sales and marketing director.
Some overnight travel may be required on occasion (once or twice a year) and driving to and from nearby cities will be as well (two to four times per year, on average).
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher in arts and sciences, marketing, business, communication, or journalism and one (1) year experience in marketing or public relations for a non-profit or public service entity, such as a university or college, museum, library, or arts program.
Must be able to lift and maneuver boxes of books and materials weighing up to thirty (30) pounds.

Ability to prioritize and accomplish numerous tasks simultaneously. Ability to work independently and within deadlines. Calm and professional demeanor. Detail oriented. Self-motivated.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in book publishing with a scholarly or academic publisher. Interest or training in publishing and in subject areas in which the press is active. Familiarity with office computer equipment.
