Position Summary
The Business Development Associate for Technical Marketing is responsible for developing and executing the strategies associated with the marketing of the institutionâ™s intellectual property (IP), as well as engaging industry partners in potential licensing opportunities. This position may be considered for remote work.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Research potential IP marketing strategies by engaging with individuals at other academic institutions and industry.
Identify and implement the resources needed to build-out a comprehensive program for Washington University IP marketing.
Determine the best methods for management of contacts and interactions with contacts within OTMâ™s operational database, and institute procedures and best-practices for OTMâ™s coordination of such information, including the ability to report metrics and respond to external inquiries.
Oversee and coordinate a team of technical writers and individuals researching appropriate and market-campaign specific industry contacts and contact information.Â
Prepare one-page marketing sheets for market campaign purposes, identify contacts, and run marketing campaigns on new university IP. This may be done by the Business Development Associate for Technical Marketing or by oversight of technical writers and contact generators. Ensure that marketing sheets meet the requisite level of quality.
The Business Development Associate for Technical Marketing will be responsible for identifying and tracking metrics associated with the departmentâ™s marketing efforts.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment, typically working at desk or table, repetitive wrist, hand or finger movement.
Uses office equipment and ability to move to on, and off-campus locations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in closing business transactions and negotiating contracts.
Business experience in private industry or a Master of Business Administration degree would be a plus.
Five years working experience in a university technology transfer office or in commercial development within the private sector.
Must be able to assess the potential for a nascent technology in the commercial arena.
Excellent communication skills and be able to prioritize and manage a portfolio of technology cases.
Ability to make appropriate decisions as it relates to technology transfer activities.
Exceptional and demonstrated ability to provide superior customer service to internal and external clients.
Required Qualifications
Master or Doctorate in the life/biological sciences, medicine, biomedical engineering, engineering, or physical sciences.
Three years of experience in a university technology transfer office or in commercial development within the private sector.

Salary Range
$82,500.00 - $145,200.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
