The Marketing Specialist/Content Creator is a new position at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The inaugural Marketing Specialist will play an influential role in developing and amplifying CEEâs new marketing and content strategy in support of the departmentâs mission. This is an ideal role for an agile, strategic communications specialist that is looking for an opportunity to make a consequential impact. âAs a key communications professional, the Marketing Specialist/Content Creator serves as a resource to others in the department, producing, writing, and disseminating communications projects with forward-facing impact that elevates the department to our global audience. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. This position has been funded for an initial 2-year period. The Viterbi School will consider converting it to a permanent role at the department and/or School following the initial period of funding.
Collaborate with USC Viterbi PR and Marketing teams to disseminate materials to the widest possible audience, including both internal and external media organizations.
Create and modify web content on a regular basis, including for our website social media accounts.
Occasionally create newsworthy articles based on the research and the work of students in the department or cross-department collaborations.
Work with Development and Student Services teams to create content explaining our mission and research to past, present and future donors, industry partners, students, and alumni.
Collaborate with media professionals both inside and outside of USC to create original multimedia content, including graphics, videos, animations, and podcasts.
Assist with the writing and editing of scientific content, such as grant proposals, publications, and web materials for our national and international collaborators.
Draft key messaging and speeches / presentations for the Department Chair.
Creates and maintains relationships with researchers to mine for new story ideas and pitch content to other marketing professionals at USC Viterbi.
Identify, initiate, and manage additional content-related deliverables throughout project lifecycles. Â This includes the creation of newsletters, websites, brochures, departmental reports, and other collateral describing our work to various audiences and increasing the departmentâs exposure.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Deep curiosity and a knack for turning complicated concepts into great stories that drive audience engagement.
Expertise with AP style guidelines and grammar.
Experience with content creation and dissemination for print, web and through social media.
A visual thinker with basic graphic design skills for both print and web.
Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain professional, effective working relationships with academic leaders, university administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
Ability to both take direction and work independently, establishing priorities, and following through on assignments
Ability to manage time and workload effectively and complete assignments promptly amid conflicting demands, multiple deadlines, competing requirements, and changing priorities
Experience with WordPress and content management systems a plus
Experience with newsletter software like Mailchimp is a plus
Experience with basic video / sound editing software is a plus
Candidates with degrees in communication or journalism, combined with scientific / technology writing experience, are strongly encouraged to apply.
