Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
Crafts speeches and opinion-editorial pieces for the Vice President for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs (VPODEMA) that focus on specific topics that engage defined audiences. This duty requires the incumbent to spend time with the VPODEMA to understand the VP's thoughts and ensure that one re-creates the distinct voice within the written speech
Works with AVP to develop distinctive and effective brand stories and voices for the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs and its units. Write hidden content for web pages, such as page titles, error pages, descriptive ALT text, and metadata, and implement search engine optimization programs.
General Responsibilities
Reviews written content for various communications needs, audiences, and publication formats.
Under supervision, corrects basic and progressively more complex grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and syntax errors and performs edits that improve overall writing quality of communications.
Evaluates submissions from writers to ensure they meet requirements for specific publications, including content, length, brand guidelines, and deadline specifications.
Regularly consults with writers, printers, faculty, staff, and/or other stakeholders to ensure adherence to writing and publications deadlines.
Drafts routine communications to be reviewed and approved by supervisor.
Audits writing and/or communications for adherence to brand guidelines, compile reports to analyze written communication output from the unit, and/or create and execute an editorial calendar.
Provides guidance to other Writing/Editing Assistants; may make process recommendations to supervisor.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
High school diploma or GED
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in journalism or communications or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
4 years in relevant field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
