The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) in Arlington, VA, a professional scientific society, is recruiting a Marketing Manager. The Marketing Manager’s chief responsibility is to protect the association’s credibility and identity while ensuring AAPS members, former members, and potential members are aware of the association’s products and programs. The Marketing Manager assists with the development and implementation of multi-channel marketing campaigns with an emphasis on digital marketing. The Marketing Manager also coordinates all marketing activities for the organization to increase brand awareness, membership growth and retention, readership, and registration for events. The Marketing Manager is expected to understand and actively support AAPS in positioning itself as a scientific organization, and positioning its events, products, and services in the pharmaceutical community. The Marketing Manager must also have a strong understanding of best practices in the specific area of non-profit/membership marketing and be able to articulate and assist in developing AAPS’ member value proposition.
The role’s main functions are:
Assisting in the development of and then fully executing marketing campaigns.
Coordinating with AAPS’ external marketing consultant.
Assesses the impact of marketing campaigns and consulting on new strategies and tactics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in developing marketing strategy and campaigns tactics with cross-functional staff teams.
Develop and manages the email calendar for member/non-member focused emails and drafts text of most emails for distribution.
Supervise marketing emails sent to partners by consultants.
Manage day-to-day engagement with AAPS’ marketing consultant, including providing direction to consultant on developing copy, selecting images, etc. in material representing AAPS.
Proofread and review marketing collateral and other communication-focused documents.
Use tools, including Google Analytics, to track performance of emails, social media ads, and other messaging.
Monitor and report on all marketing campaigns and activities and analyzes performance against goals.
Produce status reports on marketing efforts and results and make recommendations for marketing program changes.
Oversee the development of videos used for marketing.
Assist in the development of social media collateral and works with AAPS’ Communications Team to post material.
Manage consultants in taking photography and video for AAPS at its in-person events.
Develop and implements surveys as needed for various purposes.
Qualifications:
Experience in working in marketing for a non-profit organization that relies on revenue from memberships and events.
Excellent copyediting and proofreading skill. Candidate will be required to produce writing samples and complete a writing test.
Excellent project management skills, including the ability to prioritize, multitask, and handle multiple projects and deadlines.
Strong understanding of branding, trademarks, and logo use.
Proven experience with digital marketing.
Experience with Google Analytics and other means for tracking marketing performance strongly preferred.
Understanding of membership marketing best practices is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with scientific nomenclature strongly preferred.
Proven success working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Must be able to travel to week-long AAPS events in spring and fall.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required. Degree in marketing-oriented or science-oriented field preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Suite, especially Excel, required.
Experience with Microsoft Teams preferred.
Physical Demands
Majority of work is performed on a personal computer sitting at a desk for long periods of time throughout the day. May be expected to lift boxes up to 25 pounds. Travel to AAPS core meetings and other workshops required. Evening and weekend work required occasionally. Ability to remain professional in stressful and crisis situations is critical.
Work Environment
Remote work environment. Work is performed within a fast-paced high volume, detail-oriented environment. Travel is required.
