The School of Business at Portland State University seeks candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track position in Advertising to teach 36 credit hours of marketing and/or advertising courses per academic year, including direction of FIR NW, PSU's student-run ad agency.
Requirements for the position are (1) at least a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 10 years of senior level advertising industry experience in a well-established advertising/marketing organization managing teams serving client interests, (2) recent, demonstrated excellence in teaching, (3) an interest in teaching in both traditional in-person as well as online modes, and (4) knowledge of, and experience with, contemporary advertising practices. An expectation for this role is maintaining an active level of engagement with the industry. The position will also entail a limited amount of service activities to either the University, the School of Business or Advertising area.
The preferred candidate will be someone with a Master's degree, who can enhance the program's national reputation and profile with advertising, branding and communication firms. Preference will be given to applicants with a background in concepting and executing creative strategy who can leverage a successful creative industry track record to enhance student learning and creative skill development. The Bachelor of Business: Advertising Management degree program at PSU annually graduates about 75 students, many of whom pursue careers in account management, media strategy and account planning/strategy. The program partners with the Communication department and the Graphic Design program to offer minors in advertising management. In recent years, the program has attracted increasing regional and national attention.
