ABOUT THE POSITION
Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer (CCO), the Director of Web Services works with the CCO to develop web strategy and communication with the College???s diverse constituencies. The Director of Web Services will manage production of a new College website, a project led by the CCO, in coordination with College stakeholders, to adapt or create templates, and determine design and technical specifications to expand the College web presence and streamline navigation. The Director will provide creative direction, manage web development operations and capabilities, coordinate training for College-wide content managers, and develop production processes, policies, and standards to ensure a dynamic and consistent web experience consistent with College priorities.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
Manage web team and coordinate as needed with College technical staff for development of new website as well as routine web maintenance activities, ensuring smooth functioning of the CMS, web events calendar, secure services, appropriate troubleshooting and installation of web applications, security and privacy protocols, ADA compliance, and/or software as needed.
Monitor and customize metatags with a focus on SEO best practices, including implementation of the correct format for page titles, headers, meta-information and alt tags for images.
Identify strategic short and long-term content review and implementation activities for the website in order to ensure consistent delivery of an up-to-date, engaging, dynamic, and user-friendly content and navigation experience aligned with College priorities.
Manage day-to-day production, special projects, assignments, schedules, and calendars to ensure that all work meets high quality standards, is timely, within budget, and is consistent with the College???s brand and priorities. Plan workflows and processes, allocate resources for digital media and web operations, and manage production activities, including deadlines, to ensure quality and timely completion of projects.
Implement processes to regularly partner with College leaders, faculty, and staff to review and update web editorial and multimedia design content, providing advice and recommendations to help stakeholders ensure their related information is included on the site and is consistent and up-to-date.
Develop, edit and implement the calls to action, editorial content, and multimedia design of all top-level College webpages and all new and redesigned web page content to ensure consistency and maximize user engagement and deliver search engine optimization.
Conduct usability analysis through formal and informal research (focus groups, online surveys, web analytics, etc.) and effectively translate results into site design, navigation, and resource development.
Manage Google Analytics, set up campaigns and generate customized reports as needed and translate analytic insights into improved website content and design
Report analytics to content/page ???owners??? and provide guidance on potential improvements.
Manage hiring, mentoring, and supervision of staff, as well as external and internal creative resources, including, as needed, external vendors, freelance partners and student interns in order to meet goals. Develop and assess staff on an ongoing basis.
Maintain and apply professional, creative, and technical knowledge and expertise and research new and emerging developments in website design and content delivery and cutting edge web applications and tools that can be used to increase website visibility and enhance communications internally and externally.
Must be available for evening and weekend assignments as needed.
Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work in the office, and this position is based in New York, NY.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate should be a passionate team player and enthusiastic advocate for justice and an ambassador for the highest quality digital presence who has:
Demonstrated technical know-how in content management systems and processes and up-to-date knowledge of digital production trends and tools
Experience developing and leading systems and processes to support content development by content owners, with strong attention to customer service and exceeding the needs of stakeholders
Strong attention to detail and knowledge of web architecture and website design and development
Proficiency in user and marketing interface design, usability methodology, CMS, and browser capabilities
Expertise in SEO best practices and Google Analytics management
Strong project/time management, leadership, and organizational skills, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Excellent communication and active listening skills and demonstrated record building relationships with diverse stakeholders and colleagues including students, faculty, staff, alumni
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and student success, or to working with a broadly diverse community.
Experience in deadline-driven, high profile news/features production environment and/or familiarity with higher education, recruitment, alumni outreach and student engagement and the communication needs of a diverse commuter college a plus.
