Job Description:
The Director of Academic Marketing Strategy will serve an integral role on the Integrated Marketing team, within Ohio University's Communications and Marketing Division. Reporting to the Senior Director for Marketing Integration, the Director will work closely with academic partners and college leadership to develop a planful, strategic approach to marketing OHIO's robust and nationally-recognized academic enterprise.
More specifically, the successful candidate will be tasked with developing strategic marketing and communication plans that reinforce the university's mission and vision. The ideal candidate will have experience working across multiple marketing channels with a successful track record of developing and implementing strategic marketing plans, utilizing multiple platforms and channels. They will possess exceptional communication, problem solving and critical thinking skills and have an ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously without losing sight of the big picture. Excitement for creating and collaborating is a must.
Responsible for:
Interfacing with academic partners to clearly understand their objectives and outcomes and translating those desires into recommendations for a strategic plan with executionable tactics, and managing the project through completion.
Under the supervision of the Senior Director, and in close collaboration with tactical experts within UCM, manage the production of print, electronic, video and web-based communications to support strategic initiatives developed to support the college as well as UCM, Enrollment Management, or Advancement initiatives as assigned.
Maintain overall consistency in marketing messages, university branding and college-level sub-branding with a focus on aligning campus partner goals with institutional goals.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities:
Serve as a strategic expert and consultant for the assigned University colleges and departments in order to recommend and develop methods and strategies to help advance initiatives, projects, programs and goals.
Formulate strategic plans to help University academic partners achieve objectives and outcomes.
Consult with and advise campus academic partners regarding project and program objectives and outcomes, and have the ability to articulate how this integrates with larger University goals as well as complements other programs.
Work collaboratively with the expertise within University Communications and Marketing (including but not limited to web content, social, internal and external communications, marketing strategy, multimedia designers, photographers, videographers, and writers) to develop and execute strategic plans and tactics.
Direct projects while meeting multiple deadlines that result in partner's satisfaction, maintaining quality control and consistent standards, conveying clearly the University's image.
Minimum Qualifications:
Deep knowledge of marketing best practices including digital advertising, paid and organic search and social media tactics, content marketing and other marketing channels and tactics as needed.
A minimum of 6-8 years of experience leading marketing strategy for a product or program;
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing or related field of study required.
Experience in higher education and marketing or with a marketing and communication agency is helpful but not required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Broad understanding of strategic marketing and communications principles, including traditional and digital tactics and channels. An understanding of enrollment marketing cycles and tactics as well event marketing strategies is a plus.
Ability and confidence to recommend appropriate marketing tactics for desired goals and outcomes
Ability to meet timely and crucial deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Exceptional communication and customer service skills; an ability to represent OHIO, the schools, programs and unit at a high level at all times.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Collaborative work style and strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to work with various constituency groups
Must have initiative, creativity, commitment to collaboration, and decisiveness
