POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Dean, the Director of Marketing and Communication will be housed in Duquesne’s McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts. The School offers over 30 majors and minors, has 17 departments/centers and over 125 full-time faculty and 25 staff members. The Director of Marketing and Communication will be responsible for an annual marketing spend for the School not to exceed each year’s budget assigned by the Dean.
The Director of Marketing and Communication will be crucial in marketing the College’s 30+ majors and minors through our social media platforms, print and digital advertising, web, on-campus signage, email campaigns, etc. This position will attend some current and prospective student events to capture photo and video collateral to be used for marketing purposes, help the Director of Recruitment design mailers/packages that go out to students on behalf of the College, and curate content for the web as outlined in Division of Marketing and Communication’s (DMC) brand guidelines document and best practices trainings. The Director of Marketing and Communication will work with departments on their individual marketing needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Updates and maintains communication plans and strategies to meet the needs of our prospective and current students through web, social media, Campaign Monitor, and other outlets.
Serves as the primary liaison with the Division of Marketing and Communication (DMC), and between DMC and departmental content managers.
Optimizes Liberal Arts pages on duq.edu to prioritize prospective student visitors as well as the Intranet to ensure our current students have easy access to the information they need; serves as 1 of 2 “Web Publishers” for the College of Liberal Arts.
Keeps up with social media standards and compliance; manages social media calendar and ensures Duquesne Liberal Arts accounts have an active presence across all platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
Measures data analytics for web and social media to determine what initiatives are performing well and how to widen our online presence in meaningful ways.
Works alongside the Director of Recruitment to develop promotional pieces for the College, including brochures, digital marketing pieces, website components/highlights, and other materials.
Prioritizes attendance at departmental and College-wide events throughout the academic year to take photos and videos in order to promote the College accurately and effectively; Seeks out students with strong outcome stories to highlight through various platforms.
Works alongside the Dean, Associate Dean, and the Director of Recruitment as needed to strengthen, promote, and implement liberal arts initiatives for current students.
Completes other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises student employees only. (1-2 students)
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communication Studies, Digital Media or in another related field an accredited institution and 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience.
3-5 years of experience working in a marketing role involving the use of a content management system (CMS) and/or as a social media strategist for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc., with the enthusiasm to learn new technologies relevant to the position as needed.
Proficient in data collection around web and social media, including Google Analytics/GA4 and data retrieval from social media platforms and Slate.
Strong understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel & PowerPoint) as well as the Adobe Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, etc.).
Preferred qualifications:
Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Ability to think strategically and creatively with respect to marketing prospective students to Duquesne through a storytelling lens.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students (current and alumni, primarily), faculty, administrators, and others in the University Community.
