OVERVIEW
Claremont Graduate University is building a dynamic marketing team to grow admissions and inspire philanthropy. Reporting to the AVP of Growth Marketing, the Marketing Copywriter will craft high-quality marketing copy and compelling written content that inspires action and showcases the power of knowledge and innovation at CGU, and its impact on the world.
The ideal candidate will be creative, adaptive, and collaborative, and will possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Applicants must provide samples of work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop, optimize, and edit copy for various marketing initiatives and channels, including websites, emails, landing pages, blog posts, digital advertising, social media, print, event flyers and invitations, and media releases.
Collaborate with key stakeholders from the Office of Advancement (Marketing, Admissions, Recruiting, Alumni, Partnerships, and Philanthropy) to execute marketing and philanthropic campaigns and special projects.
Tailor messaging to serve the needs of different target audiences, including prospective students, current students, alumni, faculty, staff, and board members.
Partner with the Content Marketing Strategist to develop a comprehensive content calendar that includes key dates and SEO-optimized content.
Align with the Marketing Creative Services Manager to establish a quality assurance process that ensures all written content is accurate and on brand before it is published.
Research and conduct interviews with university stakeholders for content as needed.
Ensure all marketing content adheres to the university's brand style, tone of voice, and positioning.
Remain current on best practices and the potential integration of generative AI tools for streamlining the copywriting workflow.
Partner with the Marketing Creative Services Manager to onboard and oversee freelancers, interns, and student workers as needed.
Assume additional responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, English, or related fields. Alternatively, a combination of education and professional experience fulfilling the desired skill set.
EXPERIENCE: Three to five years of professional copywriting with experience in integrated marketing, brand marketing, or marketing communications.
CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS: This is an exempt, 12-month, benefits-based position.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Supervise freelancers and student workers as needed to support communications operations.
REPORTS TO: AVP of Growth Marketing
HOURS: The regular hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hours may vary due to needs of the university. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
