The museum is seeing a creative and inventive intern with strong writing and social media skills to play a key role in ensuring the Museum successfully fulfills its mission to provide an extraordinary environment to engage youth and families in learning about science, history and natural history.
The intern will assist with content creation and work as part of a creative team, reporting to the Marketing Manager. Responsibilities may include development of marketing/social media content, research, media monitoring and analytics tracking.
Hours per week are flexible and will not total more than 15 hours per week. Working hours per week are flexible, and may include some nights and weekends as events warrant.
This internship will be from September-December with the option to extend in the spring.
Basic responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Create copy/content for various Museum platforms, print and digital
Photography for events and programs
Production and editing of video for use on Museum website and social media
Writing draft copy of news releases
Distribution and tracking of new releases
Maintenance of media contact list
Additional expectations & responsibilities:
Skilled proofreader
Able to work with a group in fast paced environment
General knowledge of AP Style and content management
Participation in creative brainstorming sessions
Qualifications:
The internship is open to current undergraduate junior and seniors, recent graduates and graduate students studying Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or a similar discipline. The successful intern will also possess:
Strong oral and written communication skills with an attention to detail; ability to read and edit copy
Strong organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Proficiency in social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, etc.
Passionate about the importance of the museum in the community
Ability to lift 20 pounds, walk and stand for long periods of time on concrete floors
