Director of Development Profile
The Director of Development (DoD) will have proven moves management fundraising experience that has resulted in more than $2 million annually. A proven staff leader with more than seven years managing a development team.
The selected candidate will work directly with the CEO and board to refine and implement the comprehensive, goal-based, long and short-term fundraising plan. This will include major gifts, annual gifts, planned giving, special events, corporate and foundation giving and other initiatives that will increase support.
The DoD will work closely with program staff, volunteers and the community to cultivate a culture of philanthropy, encourage participation, and celebrate the role that giving plays in the program.
Key Responsibilities
The Development of Director will provide strategic direction, leadership, and management of all fundraising efforts (major gifts, annual giving, events, corporate and foundation giving). Specifically, the DoD will:
Refine, implement and oversee the overarching development strategy, including budgets and benchmarks.
Plan and execute fundraising campaigns, by cultivating supporters to higher levels of giving.
Orchestrate development communications, including appeals, proposals and other collateral.
Track and report gifts to organization; oversee the maintenance of the database and ensure consistent usage across the organization.
Manage the gift acknowledgment process and stewardship of gifts.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Expected hours: 40 per week
Schedule:
Evenings as needed
Monday to Friday generally, weekends as needed
Work Location: onsite of organization in Bergen County, NJ
Qualifications and Preferences
While experience and skills are essential, our organization is particularly interested in candidates with the drive, creativity and personality to elevate fundraising efforts.
7-10+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, including successful solicitation of major gifts
Ability to think and act independently as well collaborate effectively
Creative, innovative, and able to devise new approaches to philanthropy
Exceptional written and oral communication skills; strong presentation skills and a passion for working with major gifts prospects and donors.
